Enzen Global launches new solution to cap distribution losses
Indian power distribution companies to breathe easy
Announcement / Corporate Jul 24, 2009, 18:56 IST

Enzen Global Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a global knowledge solutions provider for the power, gas and water sectors, today announced the launch of a first-of-its-kind ERP solution specifically designed for Indian power distribution companies. PSU DHBVNL (Dakshin Haryana Bijili Vitaran Nigam Limited) is the first power distribution company in India to go live with this unique ERP solution.

  • AT&C losses in India are as high as 50% of the turnover in some parts of the country
  • Total commercial losses are about Rs 20,000 crore
  • The electrical power deficit in the country is around 18%. Clearly, reduction in distribution losses can reduce this deficit significantly with the help of newer technological options to enable better monitoring and control

Recognising the urgent need for automation in the power distribution sector, Enzen Global has responded with a fully integrated enterprise solution, made specifically for the Indian market. The Integrated Distribution Management Solution (iDMS) brings control, coordination, transparency, and information accessibility to the distribution sector, which is struggling to cap its losses.

The latest data on AT&C (aggregate technical and commercial) losses of various state electricity boards, compiled by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), highlights the need to improve efficiencies in power distribution.  The numbers for 2006-07 show that there have been no significant changes in the recent years. Most of the utilities continue to post AT&C losses ranging between 20% and 60% of the turnover.

One of the challenges facing the sector is the unavailability of timely and coordinated information. Automation has been in random pockets only. The iDMS helps utilities automate and control all critical processes to provide seamless operations and informed decision-making.

The Rewari Division of DHBVNL is the first to go live with Enzen’s ERP. Mr. Anurag Agarwal, MD, DHBVN appreciated the ease with which the iDMS solution was implemented and used by the officials concerned. He specially appreciated the fact that iDMS has been tailored to suit Indian distribution companies and would be of great value to them.

Mr. John Jacob, Head, Product Research, Enzen Global Solutions, says, “The degree of coordination and information accessibility required in this time-sensitive sector cannot be neglected, especially given the high AT&C losses. The restructured power reforms programme, Accelerated Power Development and Reform Program (APDRP), launched with a total outlay of Rs 51,000 crores (of which 10,000 crores is for IT and related automation) aims to reduce the AT&C losses to 15% and stands testimony to the urgent need for automation.”

iDMS was built after elaborate research and consultation with the aim to develop a ready to deploy, India specific, affordable enterprise solution. Along with the best practices for India and regulatory requirements’ compliance, iDMS employs cutting edge technology which is scalable and quick to implement. The features offered go beyond the APDRP mandate for a few front-office operations and delivers end-to-end integration of all business processes.

The product built over Microsoft Dynamics AX platform guarantees scalability, familiarity and ease of use. Developed in partnership with the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (DHBVNL), iDMS will be offered both as a licence model and a SaaS model.
