Exide Industries, the country's largest lead acid storage battery manufacturer, is aiming at a larger marketshare from the rural market by expanding the dealer network by another 30 per cent in the segment.
"Our company has 14 per cent marketshare in the organised tractor battery segment and the rest is controlled by unorganised manufacturers. We want to take this up to 25 per cent in another two years," Exide Auto rural business GM Mukul Kandwal said here today.
Exide was expecting to sell 2.5 lakh batteries for tractors in 2009-10 up from 1.7 lakh in 2008-09, Kandwal said on the sidelines of a seminar on rural marketing organised by CII.
The company’s turnover from tractor battery sales was Rs 100 crore annually, he said.
Exide has rolled out Project Kissan to reach out to farmers through dealers, who also take care of batteries sold.
"This year we are adding close to 800-900 dealers on a base of 2,800 dealers that we have in the rural areas," Khandwal said.
