Expedia appoints new managing director of Expedia Asia Pacific
Announcement / Corporate Nov 24, 2009, 15:19 IST

Expedia, Inc., the world’s leading online travel company, has appointed Dan Lynn as Managing Director, Expedia Asia Pacific. In this role, Lynn will lead the development and operations of the four Expedia-branded sites in the region: Expedia Australia, Expedia India, Expedia Japan and Expedia New Zealand. Being based in Sydney, he will oversee the Asia Pacific growth strategy for Expedia Worldwide, the Expedia, Inc. business group responsible for all 20 Expedia-branded sites across the globe.

"Asia Pacific is an important region of growth for Expedia as we advance our commitment to being the absolute best place for consumers there and around the world to book travel," said Eric Grosse, President, Expedia Worldwide. "Dan's passion for the business and commitment to delivering travellers the best booking experience will help foster the growth of our business in the region, and enhance our offering for the benefit of our customers."

Lynn's appointment follows strong growth for Expedia in the Asia Pacific region. Expedia, Inc. recently reported in its Q3 2009 earnings announcement that its Expedia® and Hotels.com® branded sites in the Asia Pacific region grew gross bookings by more than 60 per cent in the quarter. The growth coincides with a number of initiatives by the company to enhance its customers' booking experience. For example, in Australia, Expedia.com.au recently removed flight booking fees, becoming one of the first travel websites in Australia to offer fee-free flight bookings on all flights it offers. Australian consumers have responded enthusiastically to the move.

Lynn previously served as Vice-President of Search Engine Marketing for Expedia and Hotels.com Worldwide. Prior, he was Expedia's Director of Strategy and Customer Insight, during which time he led a team of business analysts, statisticians and strategists instrumental in the evolution of Expedia’s global marketplace. Prior to joining Expedia, Dan worked for London-based Smedvig Capital, where he handled management and operation of the portfolio companies of the Smedvig fund. He was previously an analyst with McKinsey & Company, focusing on strategy, operational improvement and corporate finance for McKinsey clients. Dan holds a B.A. in Economics and Management from Oxford University.

Lynn assumes his new role effective immediately. He takes over following the transition of former Managing Director of Expedia Asia Pacific, Arthur Hoffman, who was recently appointed Managing Director of Italy-based Venere.com, also an Expedia, Inc. company.
