Congress veteran Manikrao Hodlya Gavit is all set to become the pro-tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha pipping the CPI(M)’s Basudeb Acharia to the post. Both are long-time  parliamentarians who started their long innings with the 7th Lok Sabha. But Gavit has a slight edge. Records show that Acharia had once resigned from the lower house on party orders and that makes Gavit senior to the Marxist. The pro-tem Speaker will preside over the process to elect the Speaker of the 15th Lok Sabha after the House convenes in June.
