Food Corporation of India (FCI) would open 77 additional paddy procurement centres in Bihar from November 1.
FCI's procurement centres in the state have increased to 150 from 115 procurement centres, FCI Deputy General Manager, Bihar, Prashant Kumar Satpathy said.
"We have started the process for opening 77 additional centres in the state and set up some more in due course considering the flow of paddy," he added.
The state government and its agencies — BISCOMAUN, NAFED, Bihar State Food Corporation (BSFC), Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) — opened nearly 4,000 centres across the state, but so far they (state) have not submitted the details to the FCI, Satpathy said.
He added that initially central procurement agency would be opening centres at those places from where it had procured 1000 metric tonne or more last year.
Satpathy said that Centre and the state government have not announced bonus so far which might impact the procurement of paddy.
