| First phase of Jhajjar plant likely before Commonwealth Games |

The first phase of the 1,500 Mw Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project at Jhajjar in Haryana is likely to be commissioned before the Commonwealth Games. It would cater to the power requirements of the Games to be held in Delhi in 2010.
Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (HPGCL) managing director Sanjeev Kaushal said construction work on the mega status project was progressing as per schedule. Keeping in view the pace and progress of the construction activities, the power secretary has re-fixed the commissioning target of the first 500 Mw unit in April 2010, he added.
Haryana would get 50 per cent power produced by this unit. The other two 500 Mw units each would be commissioned in October 2010 and January 2011. The total estimated project cost is Rs 7,892 crore and since commencement of construction, an expenditure of Rs 2,543 crore has been incurred on the project.
This is the largest power generating project being set up in Haryana in a joint venture between NTPC, HPGCL and Indraprastha Power Generation Corporation Ltd. The power generated from this project will be shared equally between Delhi and Haryana.
For implementation of this project, a joint venture company Aravali Power Company Pvt Ltd was formed in December 2006. The project is being set up on 2,298 acres covering the villages of Khanpur Khurd, Jharli, Mohanbari and Goriya.
