| The first-ever river cruise on the largest surviving mangrove forest in the world, Sunderbans, is likely to start from the third week of January.

| The cruise would start from Kolkata and go up to Dhamakhali in Sunderbans, a distance of close to 200 kilometres.Vivada Inland Waterways (VIWL), the operator of the Sunderban river cruises, is also planning to start upstream cruise to Allahabad and Patna from Kolkata later this year.

| The executive director (ED) of VIWL, R Sushila informed that it would offer a complete package that combines luxury with eco tourism, adventure sports, leisure and nature trek.

| According to Sushila, the total package will be of three days and two nights. We are charging Rs 15,000-20,000 per person for the package," she said. The operator is targeting inbound tourists from the UK, USA and other European countries.

| "We have already started roadshows in UK and USA. Later on, we may organise roadshows in other European countries too," she added.

| According to her, Vivada might combine river cruise with Buddhist circuit later. "We are getting good response from Japan. They are very much interested about the upstream journey up to Patna. From there they want to go to Budh Gaya," she added.

| The Vivada ED pointed out that the company would contribute five per cent of its profit for the development of ecosystems in Sunderbans. Besides, the outfit is also planning a day cruise on the Ganges near Kolkata and may also introduce adventure sports. |
