Fledgling Maffick eyes home products market

Kolkata-based Maffick Home Products Pvt Ltd, a new entrant in the world of home products with products like soaps, talcum powder, mosquito coils and hair oil, has set a sales target of Rs 50 crore in the current financial year.
 
D Bhattacharya, managing director, Maffick Home said, "We are launching our products today. Within the first quarter of operation, we are expecting sales of Rs 5-7 crore. Sales target for the year 2006-07 is around Rs 50 crore."
 
The company would shortly launch pet food and pet accessories, he noted. "The market for pet food is very large with only one major player. We will be entering the market shortly," said Bhattacharya.
 
The company has a technical tie-up with Australia-based 'In Essence Aromatherapy of Fitzroy. It was also mulling the idea of exporting herbal soap in the Australian market next year, confirmed Bhattacharya.
 
The company, which currently sources it products from third party named Sourya Chemicals, will also be setting up own manufacturing units.
 
"We will be setting up major manufacturing unit in Guskara, Burdwan spreading over 1.5 bigha for our major products. Another unit for mosquito coils will be set up in Boral very shortly," he added.
 
The total investment would be around Rs 30 crore with debt-equity ratio at 1:4, he explained. Production of Guskara unit is likely to start by early 2008 whereas Boral unit will start operation within the next three months.
 
The company had firmed up plans to spend Rs 1.5 crore for advertisement, Bhattacharya said. Currently, the company has invested Rs 2.5 crore for raw material.
 
Speaking on its distribution network, Bhattacharya informed that the company currently had a dealer network of 250 that would be scaled up to 5,000 within next 45 days, he said. The company will be focusing on eastern region including West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and north-eastern states.
