City-based Globsyn group would start the first-ever institute for family-run business houses in the country at its twin locations located in Kolkata and Ahmedabad.
Globsyn group Chairman and CEO Bikram Dasgupta said 60 per cent to 70 per cent of India's business houses were managed by families.
Christened as the Asian Institute of Family Business, the programmes would be developed based on extensive research carried out by a team of dedicated professionals exposed to the nuances of running family businesses, he said.
The institute has tied up international institutions like Family Business Institute, North Carolina, The Lyles Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, California, Institute of Applied Entrepreneurship, Coventry, and Family Firm Institute of Boston.
The curriculum includes matters like succession planning, sibling partnerships, cousin consortiums, family business governance, second generation family business, and the role of family members among others.
The institute had also roped in the former executive director of Sebi, Pratip Kar, as advisor.
Dasgupta said the institute would target small and medium sized companies.
