General Motors India, today said that it would not lay off any of its 4,000 employees even though its parent has decided to remove 10,000 of its workforce globally by May this year.

"We don't have any plan to lay off employees in India," GM India President and Managing Director Karl Slym told reporters here.

Admitting that there was pressure in India as well due to the economic meltdown, company Director and Vice President (Corporate Affairs) P Balendran said, for the current year GM India expected to clock an around 9.5 per cent growth as in the previous two years.

The company GM India has two manufacturing plants in India-- Halolin Gujarat and Talegaon in Maharashtra. It has a technical center in Bangalore. GM has made $1-billion investment commitment to India.

General Motors India is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the world's largest auto-maker, General Motors Corporation.
