| After 14 years of conception, Karnataka’s luxury train (similar to that of Rajasthan’s Palace on Wheels) will start its voyage in November this year. Called Golden Chariot, it is the result of a joint venture between the state tourism department, union department of tourism and the Ministry of railways.

| Announcing this today, state tourism secretary IM Vittalamurthy told reporters the Rs 40-crore venture would showcase some of the best known tourism destinations starting from Bangalore to Goa on its seven-day sojourn.

| The journey starts on a Sunday from Bangalore and covers Srirangapatnam, Mysore, Kabini Wildlife sanctuary, Belur, Halebid, Sharavanabelagola, Hampi, Aihole, Badami, Pattadakal and Goa before culminating at Bangalore. The department of tourism has worked out the fare at $325 (approx Rs 13,000) per person per night.

| The luxury train consists of 19 coaches, which include 11 passenger coaches, one conference coach, 2 dining cum restaurant cars, one lounge bar, one spa-cum-gym, 2 generator cars and one staff car. It can carry 88 passengers.

| The cabin coaches are fully air-conditioned with 26 twin bed, 17 double bed as well as one cabin for the physically challenged. Every cabin is equipped with an LCD TV with 6-channel DVD player and a 6 satellite channel reception.

| The interiors are inspired by the timeless aesthetics of Hampi, Halebid and the regal Mysore palace.

| Vittalamurthy said the department was in the process of finalising the general sales agents and hospitality partner for the luxury train. |
