| Govt allots land to Christian Medical College in Chittoor |

The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday allotted 589.59 acre to Christian Medical College, Vellore, for setting up its full-fledged campus in the state. The campus would come up at Ramapuram and DB Palle villages in Chittoor, said state information minister Aanam Ramanarayana Reddy.
Briefing the media about the decision taken at the Cabinet meeting today, he said CMC would set up a super-specialty hospital, medical, pharmacy and dental colleges, a nursing school and also a bio-medical engineering college on the campus.
CMC Vellore campus has a bed strength of 2,409 and treats about 4,400 out-patients per day. In addition to its under-graduate medical course, the institute offers 35 post-graduate degree courses and 11 diploma courses. In allied-health sciences, it runs 30 diploma programmes.
The proposal to provide land to various housing societies was also approved.
The Cabinet also decided to order an investigation by the Crime Investigation Department into the misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 19 crore into the micro irrigation project using Israeli drip irrigation technology taken up during the TDP regime in Kuppam in Chittoor district.
A judicial inquiry commission submitted its report in the irregularities two years ago. The government accepted them today and decided to order a CID inquiry. Explaining the reasons for the delay in accepting the recommendations, he said the government had to go through various departments before it was finally placed before the Cabinet.
