The government today said it does not intervene in the functioning of the CBI once the cases are handed over to the investigating agency.     

In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister of State in Prime Minister's office Prithviraj Chavan gave out details of the total number of cases given to CBI in the last three years, which showed that there has been an increase every year.

In 2006, 23 cases were assigned to CBI, in 2007 the number increased to 43 and in 2008, 51 cases were assigned to the agency, the minister informed.
