| Denying imposition of any new tax in the state in a "clandestine manner", Punjab's Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal on Thursday said that there was no secret notification issued by the government on taxes.
| |
| Badal said he was ready to face a privilege committee of the House if he was wrong.
| |
| Reacting to Congress MLA Makhan Singh's assertions that the government has secretly notified fresh taxes in the state even before the budget is passed, the Finance Minister told the state assembly that he was "not misleading the House" and there was no notification issued by the Government on imposition of any fresh taxes.
| |
| Makhan Singh, during the zero hour, read out a news item from a newspaper that the state government had notified that it would be charging additional Rs 6 on commuters using state-owned transport system in the wake of imposition of toll taxes.
| |
| During the on-going budget session, Transport Minister Mohan Lal had told the House that the state government was considering hike in bus fares by Rs 6.
| |
| Makhan Singh, joined by leader of opposition Rajinder Kaur Bhattal (Congress), also claimed that state government had imposed tax on power supply in urban areas as well.
| |
| However, Badal refuted the assertions strongly. |
