The government is likely to decide tomorrow hikes in minimum support prices (MSP) of rice and tur, among many other Kharif crops.
The Cabinet meeting, scheduled for tomorrow, is likely to take up the Agriculture Ministry's proposal to raise the MSP of Kharif crops, a senior government official said.
The MSP for fair average quality (FAQ) rice may be increased to Rs 1,000 per quintal in 2009-10 from Rs 850 per quintal in 2008-09. The support price for a higher-grade rice variety is likely to be hiked to Rs 1,030 per quintal from Rs 880 per quintal, the official said.
Besides giving MSP to paddy farmers, last year the government had awarded Rs 50 per quintal as bonus to paddy farmers.
Among pulses, tur MSP may be raised by Rs 300 to Rs 2,300 per quintal from last year, the official said.
The MSP is the rate at which the government procures a particular commodity from farmers.
