Govt plans no board change at Maytas Properties
Joe C Mathew / New Delhi Sep 07, 2009, 01:40 IST

The legally enforced change of management in Satyam Computers and Maytas Infra Ltd is unlikely to be repeated in Maytas Properties, the real estate company owned by the Raju family, former promoters of Satyam Computers.

While the government-appointed director in Maytas Properties has been asked to prepare a plan for its troubled Hill Country Residential Project in Hyderabad, there is no move to take away the ownership from the promoter family, it is learnt.

The government had removed all directors related to the Raju family from the board of Satyam before it was handed to the Mahindra group. Similarly, Maytas Infra was taken over by IL&FS under government observation.

According to officials, the government-appointed person will only oversee the plan of action for Maytas Properties but will not enforce any change in management.

The troubled real estate firm, wholly-owned by Raju family, is currently on the lookout for funds to complete its Rs 1,000-crore Hill Country project. The government is in the process of identifying the number of families who have booked villas and apartments in it.

“Each case is different and has to be dealt with separately. While there was a large shareholder stake in Satyam, it was primarily the lenders who were troubled with Infra. Maytas Properties do not have any major debt burden, but is troubled due to lack of working capital. It will be dealt with separately,” an official said. Investigations into the Satyam accounts fraud scam have not yet revealed any fund diversions to Maytas Properties, he said.
