Govt warns farmers against selling sugarcane in other states
Press Trust of India / Muzaffarnagar Dec 04, 2009, 16:00 IST

The Uttar Pradesh today said it will not allow the sugarcane farmers of the state to sell their produce to mill owners in neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttarakhand, which they claimed offered better prices.

Criminal cases will be registered against those who purchase sugarcane for minimum price in Uttar Pradesh and sell it in neighbouring states of Haryana and Uttarakhand, the district sugarcane officer VK Shukla told reporters.

The Uttar Pradesh State Advisory Price (SAP) for sugarcane has been set between Rs 165 and Rs 170 per quintal.

The farmers of the state claim that mill owners of Uttarakhand have agreed to purchase sugarcane at rupees 220 per quintal while in Haryana the purchase price offered is around Rs 200 per quintal.

A special drive will start in the state and raids will be conducted to stop the selling of sugarcane outside the state, Sukhla said, adding a control room has been set up in the district to monitor the trade of sugarcane, Shukla said.

Meanwhile, ten sugar mills out of eleven have started their crushing work after the supply of cane was restored to them by the farmers.

It shows that in free india there is no freed likeom of trade exist and its like jamindari system of earlier days that farmers are only exploited. A pendrive costs 500 rupees manufacturing cost not more than 5 rupees while 10 kg of rice which takes much of labour and necessity of life does not fetch 500 rupees to the farmer. When there is demand for sugarcane is there the farmers cannot sell to get profit in other states . What the govt is doing is it helping farmers or taking out from their rightful oppurtunity cost as per economics by restricting intrastate sale of sugarcane. The necessity of life should be given top priorites and should be of high cost compared to other materialistic things without which mankind can survive? I may sound paradoxical or orthodoxical I don't know but every one who thinks in this direction will soon start to think when no farmer will farm and there will be droght like situation..
