GSPL to bid for mega gas pipeline projects
Press Trust of India / Ahmedabad Nov 18, 2009, 18:17 IST

Gujarat State Petronet (GSPL) is set to bid for Mehsana to Bhatinda and Bhatinda to Jammu and Srinagar natural gas pipelines for which bids were invited by Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB).

The company has purchased the application-cum-bid documents for both the pipeline projects, GSPL sources said. "We have decided to bid for both the projects," a top GSPL official said. Asked about the project details, he said that the distance from Mehsana to Bhatinda is around 1600 kilometre and if the 30 million standard cubic metre per day (mmscmd) gas pipeline is to be laid, per kilometre costs would be more than Rs three crore.

"The capacity of the pipeline will vary from bidder to bidder as the regulatory board has fixed the minimum capacity at 30 mmscmd," the official said. According to him, if the project is awarded to the company, GSPL will execute the entire pipeline project from Mehsana in North Gujarat to Bhatinda in Punjab in two years time.

Apart from GSPL, other companies which have purchased the application-cum-bid documents include L&T, GAIL, Essar projects and Nagarjuna Constructions for Mehsana-Bhatinda. Three companies - GSPL, L&T and GAIL have purchased the application-cum-bid documents for Bhatinda to Jammu and Srinagar project.

GSPL, a subsidiary of state owned Gujarat State Petroluem Corporation (GSPC) is a leading company in developing energy transportation infrastructure in Gujarat and connecting major natural gas supply sources and demand markets.
