H-P to improve channel network
BS Reporter / Kolkata Feb 25, 2009, 00:57 IST

Hewlett-Packard India Sales Private Limited (HP India) is planning to focus more on affordable printing technology and improving channel network to boost sales and strengthen its sales, in the wake of the declining printing business with more and more companies shifting from paper to online bases and reducing printing cost.

The company has even outlined a series of measures to increase it brand presence in all tier 1, tier 2 cities.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of a new Ink-advantage technology in Kolkata, Raj Kumar Rishi, director, Inkjet Web Solutions and Consumer sales division said, “In our overall expansion plans, Kolkata and eastern India has always been an important market. We intend to establish and expand our market share in the eastern region through increased channel network and new affordable printing solutions. We plan to tie up with close to 170 retail outlets and micro retail partners in this region, the number of which is expected to grow by five percent to ten percent by the end of the year."

Priced at Rs 8,179, the new Ink-advantage technology is aimed at small and medium businesses, which demand lower cost per page or lower running cost, approximately Rs 69 paise per page.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the new Ink-advantage technology Rishi said, “We will keep innovating newer products and bringing in newer printing technology across all price ranges and segments to maintain our stronghold, greater focus will be on managing printing services for bigger corporate enterprises and individual products for the SMBs and micro-entreprises, internet printing, digital publishing and photo publishing.” HP India, at present, has a host of businesses ranging from services to printers to BPO.

The company has launched over 20 models in the last fiscal in the imaging and printing division. Imaging and Printing Group (IPG)-one of the four divisions of HP India has a wide product portfolio like Inkjet and Web solutions mainly for the individual consumers , laserjet and enterprise solutions, which accounted for close to 25 per cent of all India HP sales last fiscal, informed Seema Dawar, a company spokesperson.

“We sold around 15 lakh printers last fiscal and hope to maintain the level this year, both the commercial segment and the consumer segment is growing pretty well,” informed Rishi.
