| Haldia dock sets new records |

Haldia Dock Complex handled 12,220 twenty equivalent units (TEU) in July 2008, the highest handling in a single month during April to July of the last three years.
During July 2006-07 and 2007-08, the container traffic handled at the dock complex were 7,748 TUEs and 8,780 TUEs respectively.
According to A K Chanda, chairman, Kolkata Port Trust, Haldia dock handled 47,487 TEUs against 33,899 TEUs in 2007-08 and against 33,364 TEUs in 2006-07 for the same period, which signify the growth of 40 per cent and 42 per cent respectively.
In respect of iron ore traffic from April to July, 2008, Haldia dock handled 34. 43 lakh ton against 29.83 lakh ton in 2007-08 and 29.01 lakh ton in 2006-07 for the same period, a growth of 15.4 per cent and 18.7 per cent respectively.
From April to July, 2008-09, coking coal traffic at the dock registered a growth f 13.3 per cent and 1.3 per cent respectively.
Chanda further informed, during the current fiscal from April to July, 801 vessels called at Haldia complex against 739 in 2007-08, a growth of 8.4 per cent.
From April to July, this fiscal, product export through Haldia dock recorded a substantial growth of 49 per cent over the same period last year, and 32.4 per cent over 2006-07.
