| Haldia Dock Complex of Kolkata Port Trust handled an all-time record cargo of 3.75 million tonne in January, 2006, which surpassed the previous record of 3.63 million tonne achieved during the month of November, 2005.

| This was announced by said the port trust chairman, A K Chanda, here today. During April, 2005 to January, 2006, Haldia Dock Complex handled a record 34.85 million tonne of cargo registering a growth of 17.34 per cent over 29.70 million tonne of cargo handled during the corresponding period of 2004-05.

| Haldia Dock Complex also handled a record number of 1970 vessels from April, 2005 to January, 2006 registering a growth of 14.9 per cent over 1714 vessels handled during the corresponding period of 2004-05.

| Major commodities which attributed to this growth of traffic of Haldia Dock Complex of Kolkata Port rust to achieve this feat, included iron ore (60.38 per cent), POL products (27.58 per cent), crude (3.64 per cent), coking coal (1.56 per cent ) and other commodities (16.89 per cent).

| Because of multi-dimensional development in Haldia Dock Complex of Kolkata Port Trust, after a long gap of 38 years, Kolkata Port Trust has once again been elevated to the second position amongst Indian major ports in terms of total handling of traffic during April 2005 to January 2006. |
