| The industrial hub may soon get an integrated health city with state-of-the art hospitals and medical colleges.

| Asish Lahiri, registrar of HaIdia Institute of Technology under the Indian center for Advancement of Research and Education, Haldia (ICARE) said, "ICARE is planning to set up a health city in Haldia. The detail plans including funding sources are yet to be finalised, but the venture will begin with a dental hospital that is expected to be operational by June 2006."

| The health city might require 300 acres.

| The 200-bedded dental hospital would require more than 24 acres.

| Next in the series would be a medical college that could come up in 2008, he added.

| The investment for the purpose would be to the tune of Rs 120 crore, he added.

| On the other hand, Haldia Service Society (HSS) is in the process of setting up of 'Vidyasagar Industrial Training Centre'.

| In addition to other activities, women will be trained in the institute for making soft toys, both for domestic and international market.

| Lahiri, who is also the secretary of HSS said, "We have already trained 125 women, who are making soft toys that will be marketed through the Indian Toy Making Institute(ITMI) . Products would be sold to the US as well as the domestic markets through ITMI. Among potential buyers is be Warner Bros'."

| The initial investment for the industrial training institute will be around Rs 3.85 crore, out of which Rs 2.50 crore will come from Hidal, promoted by Haldia Development Authority (HDA) , IL&FS and local companies, and the government of West Bengal.

| "An investment of Rs 100,000 on one woman, will be generating income of Rs 5,000 per month. In future, we will try to train around 500 people for which additional funds would be required," he explained.

| Meanwhile, HSS was also contemplating plans to open another school for deaf and dumb children of the area in addition to the existing one named 'Sruti'.

| "We are expecting to set up another school for deaf and dumb children in Nandigram in 2006-07. The required cost would be around Rs 10 lakh," said Lahiri.

| The region was expected to have around 200-300 deaf and dumb children, he noted.

| Meanwhile, the existing student strength at Sruti was around 200. |
