Haryana may get nuclear power plant soon
Komal Amit Gera / New Delhi/ Chandigarh Oct 27, 2009, 00:57 IST

Haryana may soon be getting a nuclear power plant at Kumharian near Fatehabad. At his maiden press meet after assuming charge as chief minister for the second time in a row, B S Hooda said, “We’ve got the in-principle approval from Nuclear Power Corporation for setting up such a plant and now a nodal agency would be made to work in synergy with the corporation,” he said.

The issue of power played a crucial role in the recently held elections and the loss of seats in the hinterland is closely connected to the power shortage in the rural areas.

The details of the project are yet to be decided but it can help the Congress government in damage control. Hooda said he would again request the Centre for a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal for paddy to the farmers. He said that the farmers of Haryana deserved this for harvesting good crop despite drought like conditions during the kharif season. The minimum support price of paddy in Haryana is Rs 980 per quintal. He informed that a new PWD (Public Works Department) Code would be announced on November 1 as the code in practice was obsolete.

As November 1 happened to be Haryana Day, an outlay of Rs 1,600 crore would be announced for bridges and road network on this day, he added.

Hooda reiterated that his party would introspect the strengths and weaknesses to assess its performance in the recent Assembly elections. He endorsed the Congress expected to do better. He gracefully admitted to deliver better governance to cover up the loss.
