| Haldia Development Authority (HDA) was working to eliminate the bottlenecks in the connectivity between Haldia and Kolkata to attract bigger investments into the area.
| |
| A major bridge over the Hooghly connecting Raichak and Kukrahati was likely to be built with financial support from the Japanese government, Lakshman Seth, chairman of HDA, said here today.
| |
| "We have received confirmation from the ministry of finance, government of India that Japan government has 'in principle' approved financial support for the proposed bridge over the Hooghly river between Raichak and Kukrahati," said Seth on the sidelines of investors' meet 'Haldia Calling' organised jointly by Confederation of Indian Industry, HDA and IL&FS.
| |
| Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) was currently preparing the detailed project report, Seth added. This would shorten the transit distance between Kolkata and Hooghly to around 85 kilometre (km) from around 135 km now.
| |
| Another bridge would be built on priority basis over the Haldi river between Haldia and Nandigram would provide access to the proposed location for a mega chemical industrial estate.
| |
| "The bridge over river Haldi would begin in January 2006 and HDA would be spending around Rs 75 crore for the bridge, for this would mean an extension of Haldia's business zone," added Seth.
| |
| These two bridges would provide easy connectivity between Kolkata and Nandigram, he explained.
| |
| Seth said HDA had already acquired 1000 acres for the proposed multi industry special economic zone (SEZ) at Haldia.
| |
| An additional 1500 acres would be acquired shortly.
| |
| In a parallel development, Haldia Integrated Development Agency Limited (Hidal), promoted by Haldia Development Authority (HDA), IL&FS and local industries, signed an agreement with HDA today for a water distribution project at the new industrial zone at Haldia.
| |
| The 20km water distribution pipeline project was expected to be completed within nine months at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
| |
| Another agreement for upgradation of the industrial training institute at Haldia was signed between Hidal and Haldia Social Services (HSS) for a project costing around Rs 3 crore. |
