Hitachi Consulting to invest $25 mn
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Hyderabad Feb 20, 2012, 00:33 IST

Hitachi Consulting, the IT and management consulting solutions subsidiary of the $115-billion Japanese major Hitachi Limited, will be making an incremental investment of $25 million (approximately Rs 125 crore) in human infrastructure at its global delivery centre (GDC) in Hyderabad over the next five years, according to Sanjay Jesrani, vice-president and head ( GDC - India and China).

Hitachi Consulting’s Hyderabad GDC employs around 1,600 people of its total engineering staff in India. Apart from Hyderabad, the company has GDCs in Pune and Bangalore which employ around 300 and 100 engineers respectively.

“Hyderabad is our largest GDC and all our global delivery requirements are fulfilled out of here. We are already in the process of adding 350 engineers here during the next financial year and take the headcount to 4,000 in the next five years,” Jesrani told Business Standard.

Stating that the company was bullish on the Hyderabad GDC as it enjoyed a strong brand presence in the city, thanks to the Sierra Atlantic connection, he said the company would capitalise on this to attract top-notch talent. Hitachi Consulting had set up presence in Hyderabad after it acquired California-based offshore enterprise applications and outsourced product developer Sierra Atlantic in January 2011. The acquisition also brought into Hitachi’s fold a GDC in Guangzhou in China where it currently employs about 230 engineers and plans to grow it to 1,000 over the next five years.

Jesrani said the company’s India business was growing at 15-20 per cent a year, and that the rest of the world revenues stand at 15 per cent, which was expected to grow faster with the company now aggressively targeting the Japan market. While North America accounts for 70 per cent of the company’s revenues, the UK contributes 15 per cent.

“SAP is a strong focus area for us and we expect to address businesses of Japanese multinationals. Now that we are Hitachi, it gives a lot of comfort to our Japan-based customers,” he said.
