HP launches Quad-Core workstations
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Bangalore December 12, 2007
Hewlett-Packard India on Tuesday announced the launch its latest HP Quad-Core workstations for a wide range of applications including software design, architecture, high-definition video, game development, scientific imaging and oil exploration.

The new range — HP xw8600, HP xw6600 and HP xw4600 workstation series — is aimed at meeting the high-end computing demands of businesses.

The HP xw8600 and HP xw6600 workstation series are powered by two Quad-Core and Dual-Core Intel Xeon processors. The HP xw4600 workstation combines a choice of Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Quad-Core processors to support the data-intensive professional applications in high-performance computing environments.

According to IDC’s Asia/Pacific Quarterly Workstation Tracker, Q3 2007, HP led the “India Branded Personal Workstation” market in Q3 2007 with marketshare of 57.9 per cent unit shipments.

Commenting on the launch, Anurag Gupta, Country Manager - Workstations, Personal Systems Group, HP India said, “HP will continue to focus on satisfying the region’s most-demanding users of workstations. We are offering more performance and robust capabilities with an eye towards designing for the environment.”

He contended that HP workstations were 90 per cent recyclable by weight.

The new HP workstations are expected to begin shipping in mid-December this year. The HP xw6600 and HP xw8600 workstations will be priced starting Rs 75,000 plus taxes whereas the HP xw4600 workstations start at Rs 42,000 plus taxes.

As part of the Asia Pacific leg of a “world tour”, the “mother of all workstations” will be showcased in Sydney, Singapore, Bangalore, Mumbai, Seoul and Beijing.
