| The ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has sought temporary accommodation for launching courses by the proposed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Hyderabad till it gets a permanent campus.

| However, it is yet to decide if the courses would commence from the next academic year. The ministry had earlier announced setting up of three new IITs in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan.

| A five-member site identification committee comprising SG Dhande, IIT-Kanpur, RA Yadav, acting chairman of All India Council for Technical Education, DV Singh, former director, IIT Roorkee, Sanjeev Bhargava, director of IIIT, Jabalpur, and Ravi Mathur, joint secretary (technical), Ministry of HRD, on Tuesday met chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy after completing the feasibility study on the proposed location at Kandi village, 50 km from the city.

| While assuring Reddy of doing their best to expedite things, the team also requested the chief minister to arrange for a temporary accommodation so that the courses could start without having to wait for the completion of the permanent campus.

| Mathur, later speaking to the media, said the government had agreed to provide temporary accommodation besides allocating 500 acres for setting up the campus. The ministry would take a final view on the site after the team submits its report.

| According to Mathur, the Centre would spend Rs 1,000 crore to develop the campus over a period of 7 years. The student intake after seven years would be around 5,000. |
