Press Trust of India / New Delhi Apr 01, 2009, 13:11 IST

The country's second largest carmaker Hyundai Motor India today reported a 15.81 per cent decline in its domestic passenger car sales at 24,754 units during March as against 29,401 units in the corresponding month of 2008.

The company's cumulative sales (including exports) during March were down by 1.79 per cent at 46,160 units as compared to 47,001 units in the same month a year ago, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said in a statement.

Its exports for the month rose by 21.63 per cent to 21,406 units compared with 17,600 units during the same month previous year.

HMIL sold 41,802 units of hatchbacks Santro, Getz, i10 and i20, 4,285 units of Accent and Verna, 70 units of Sonata Transform and three units of its SUV Tucson in March.

"As we had stated last month, the industry is far from seeing a turn around at this moment," HMIL Senior Vice President (Marketing and Sales) Arvind Saxena said.

However, the combined sales for February and March have grown by 4.5 per cent over the same period in 2008, he added.
