Keeping in line with the government's agenda, Indian Chamber of Commerce has chosen reforms, infrastructure and manufacturing as the key focus areas this fiscal, informed Vishambhar Saran, the newly-elected president of ICC.

“Last year, ICC organised some 140 summits. Keeping in mind the government’s agenda this year, the chamber has chosen its theme for 2009-10 as promoting growth through Reforms, Infrastructure and Manufacturing (RIM). The activities of the chamber will be based around these broad parameters,"said Saran.

Manufacturing is particularly relevant to eastern and North-eastern part of the country. The region being mineral rich have immense potential in mining, metals and manufacturing, he added. “Our neighbouring state, Orissa have a fine R&R policy which matches the needs of the investors as well as the landlosers. We are looking at taking some of the good points on the R&R policy from neigbouring states and compiling them in a report,” said Saran.

This apart, in order to improve regional integration and bilateral trade between India, especially West Bengal and South Asian and South-East Asian countries, ICC plans to take delegation to Vietnam, Bangkok, Indonesia this year. “We have recently visited Bangladesh and Indonesia. We want to integrate with our neighbours and synergise resources facilitating bilateral investments,” said Saran.
