The Business Standard ICE Index outperformed the BSE Sensex to gain 6.8 per cent or 4.4 points to end at 69.91 on Thursday. On the other hand, the Sensex gained 67 points or 2.15 per cent to close at 3180.23.
The mood was bullish following a sustained rise in the US markets. Other positive developments – optimism about Hewlett-Packard's results, stronger retail sales in US and the headway being made in the war on terrorism -- triggered the rally in bourses today.
ICE heavyweight Wipro leaped 10.80 per cent to Rs 1,236.45. Infosys Technologies was up 10 per cent to Rs 3,251.90.
Satyam Computer (up 9.7 per cent to Rs 177.50) remained firm amid talks that the company is in the process of finding suitors for its subsidiaries Sify and VisionCompass. There have been concerns that Satyam may continue to fund these loss-making companies, which may eat into Satyam's profits in its consolidated balance sheet. The stock recovered more than 22 per cent in the last seven trading sessions.
Zee Telefilms, a media major (up 3.58 to Rs 109.80) moved upward on sustained buying interest from institutions.
