Idea Cellular Limited plans to invest around Rs 1,200 crore across the country to improve its network capacity, covering three new circles and adding more towns during the current financial year. Of this, Rs 120 crore would be earmarked for Andhra Pradesh.
Vikram Mehmi, chief executive officer of Idea Cellular Limited, who was in the city to announce the company’s tie-up with Telugu satellite channel MAA TV on Friday, said that the company was expected to outperform the industry during the current financial year.
“We have a customer base of around 41 lakh and we expect this to grow by 100 per cent this fiscal," Mehmi said, adding, “We plan to add around 10 new towns every month and the target is to add 120 new towns by the end of the fiscal in the state.”
The company is also launching its services in three new circles – Uttar Pradesh East, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh – during the current financial year.
Earlier, the company along with MAA TV launched the Idea Number 1, a musical interactive game show based on the short messaging service (SMS) platform.
The game show would be broadcast from July 31 for 13 weeks and would have prizes amounting to Rs 10 lakh.
