| IIIT-H working on three product-based ideas |

The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), is incubating three product-based ideas – Dristicare, a tool to analyse fundus images of retina for diabetics, a music feature analysis, and Sethus, a text-to-speech and speech-to-text product for English and 23 Indian languages, said its director Rajeev Sangal.
“The three products are in the field test and development stage and are expected to see progress in the next one year. Social applications of our research are also very important for us. The agricultural advisory system of eSagu has been helping thousands of farmers earn more from their crops for over four years. The project itself is being considered for launch all over the country,” Sangal told mediapersons after the institute’s eight convocation held on Sunday.
About 305 students were conferred degrees, including 121 UG, 129 PG and 55 MSIT (Master of science in information technology), at the convocation. Saurav Khurana was awarded the IIIT gold medal for securing the highest cumulative grade point average.
“This year, IIIT-H admitted around 90 research students, taking the total number to 360 with 90 PhD students and 270 MS students. The institute is steadily moving forward in its goal to reach 100 PhD admissions per year by 2012,” he said.
As many as 41 companies visited the campus and made job offers to the graduating students. “The institute witnessed a 100 per cent placement of its graduating batch. However, it has registered the highest average compensation of Rs 6 lakh, as against last year’s Rs 7 lakh, due to the slowdown in the IT sector,” he added.
