IIM-A to introduce courses on downturn
BS Reporter / Ahmedabad June 19, 2009, 0:06 IST

In its bid to help students tackle the downturn in the economy, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) is set to introduce elective courses that specifically focus on handling financial crises. The institute is in the process of designing various courses that will equip its students to manage economic meltdown.

“One can raise revenue of an organisation at a given point of time but cost-cut is something one needs to be able to handle smartly, especially during downturn. The current scenario has led us to thinking on this line and design courses accordingly,” said BH Jajoo, dean of IIM-A.

The courses will be introduced through management development programmes (MDPs) as well as in post graduate programme (PGP).

To begin with, IIM-A will offer a 4-day course in strategic cost-management in the last week of July. “The strategic cost management will be one of the first such courses. Later on, other such electives will be designed and introduced,” said Samir Barua, director of IIM-A.
