Fifty leading Indian chemical companies will showcase their products in an exhibition at the Durban Exhibition Centre here on September 9 and 10.
The exhibition is being organised by CHEMEXCIL, the Chemicals Promotion Council of India.
Chemexcil was established by the Indian Government's Ministry of Commerce in 1963 with an objective to make concerted efforts to promote among other products, basic organic and inorganic chemicals, dyes, cosmetics & toiletries, essential oils and castor oils.
The Indian Consul General in Durban, Harsh Varshan Shringla, told PTI that the exhibition would be a largest event of its kind in the chemicals sector from India to be held in South Africa.
"The main objective of the exhibition is to expose a wide range of Indian chemicals products to South Africa and to facilitate development of mutually beneficial partnerships between the Indian and South African chemical sectors," he said.
Indian companies participating at the exhibition will represent areas like dyes, dye intermediates and pigments, inorganic and organic chemicals, agrochemicals.
Shringla said the Indian chemicals industry was estimated at $40 billion with an average growth rate of 10 per cent. The sector accounted for 17 per cent of the total manufacturing output in the country and contributes to three per cent in the total GDP of the country.
