Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran has said that Indian textiles exporters could capture additional $1.5 billion textiles and clothing market of the US through sustained efforts.
Maran, who is leading a trade delegation comprising government officials and industry people in the US, inaugurated an India Pavilion in Las Vegas yesterday.
"... If sustained efforts are made by the industry (India's textiles and clothing), the country could capture additional $1.5 billion textile and clothing market," Maran said. India contributes about 4 per cent to the garment imports of the US.
The country's textile and clothing exports to the US during January-June 2009 declined by 11.43 per cent to 2.43 billion compared to the same period last year.
The Apparel Export Promotion Council has organised an India pavilion at the Sourcing at Magic, Las Vegas. About 22 participants from Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai and Tirupur are displaying whole range of apparels at the event.
"Our objective is to strengthen and revitalise our relations with top American buyers and help the exporting community in reach-out to new buyers," the minister said.
