ING Life becomes major partner to Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010

Flags off ‘Pass the Josh’ programme to promote the event across North India.

ING Life India, part of the ING Group, today announced that it has associated with the upcoming Hero Honda FIH World Cup, 2010, as major partner, which is starting in Delhi from 28th February. The event is being organized by FIH and the Indian Olympic Association.

The company flagged off a programme called, ‘Pass the Josh’ an initiative to promote the event across North India, and garner more and more engagement of people. The programme will cover more than 3000 kms, traveling across Delhi, UP, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan in more than 40 cities and towns. The programme will create an opportunity for people from these cities to see the matches by distributing tickets. It also carries the ‘Official Fan Wall of the event, where citizens can sign in their wishes and support for their favorite teams. The official fan wall is also available on the website, www.passthejosh.com.

Speaking on ING Life’s association with the event, Mr. Rahul Agarwal, Chief Distribution Officer, ING Life said, ‘We are proud to be associated with our National Sport on such a prestigious platform. I do believe that the event will give impetus to the growing interest in Hockey as a sport. We have supported the national sport in the past as well, but this association is special as it is truly a global platform. We have initiated a special effort through Pass the Josh to promote the event, and do hope that it will engage thousands of citizens and give a chance to thousands to see the matches.’

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs. Vidya Stokes, Vice President, Indian Olympic Association said, ‘The Youth of India are taking on sports in a big way. There is a significant momentum in supporting, developing and recognizing the talent in sports. The prestigious Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010 will help promote interest in our national sport, and will act as a catalyst to produce legendary stars in Hockey. I thank ING Life for supporting the event and help promote it’

Tushar Khandekar, mid-fielder of the Indian Hockey Team, who was also present at the announcement said, ‘It is heartening to see all the efforts for the cause of Hockey. The World Cup is a truly prestigious event, and we are delighted that it is happening in India. I am sure it will make a huge difference to our morale’.

The Hero Honda FIH World Cup, 2010 kicks off on 28th February 2010. It will have twelve teams representing their countries. The event is being hosted at the Dhyan Chand Stadium in New Delhi. FIH has secured the deal with ING Life via its exclusive marketing agents in Europe and India, Sport Bizz and Commune, respectively.

About HOCKEY World Cup
The Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010, is an international field hockey competition organized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). The tournament was started in 1971. It is held every four years, bridging the four years between the Summer Olympics.

Five countries have dominated the event's history. Pakistan is the most successful team, having won the tournament four times. The Netherlands have won three titles, and Germany has won two titles. India and Australia each have won the tournament once.

The 2006 Hockey World Cup was held at the Warsteiner Hockey Park, Mönchengladbach, Germany from September 6 to September 17. Germany won for the second time, defeating Australia 4–3 in the final. The FIH World Cup will be played in India for the second time in the history of Hockey.

India is among a privileged few countries to have played in all the World Cups held so far.

World Cup hockey has been held at least once across all continents.

Indian Olympic Association
The Indian Olympic association was formed in 1927 with Sir Dorabji Tata as its first president, and since then it has been the body officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee as India’s national Olympic organisation.

The Indian Olympic association is the body responsible for selecting athletes to represent India at the Olympic Games and other international athletic meets and for managing the Indian teams at the events. It also acts as the Indian Commonwealth Games Association, responsible for selecting athletes to represent India at the Commonwealth Games
