The state owned Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Orissa (Ipicol) has been awarded the prestigious ISO 9001:2008 certification for investment promotion activity and Single Window Clearance system by TUV India. Ipicol is the first investment promotion agency in the country to be awarded the ISO 9001:2008. Haryana State Industrial Developemnt Corporation (HSIDC) is the only other investment promotion agency to have been awarded ISO 9001:2000 (the earlier version of the certification), sources said.
The certification body of international repute TUV India Pvt. Ltd., under the accreditation of NABCB of India, visited Ipicol and its projects to evaluate its conformity to the requirement of international standard ISO 9001:2008. Based on the evaluation, the body recommended Ipicol for certification.
It may be noted, United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) fielded a consultant to work for 1 year on the process of certification like evolving the strategy, documentation, training and preparedness coaching among others. ISO 9001:2008 certifications will require Ipicol to benchmark its achievement with other evolving single window mechanisms elsewhere. While the single window mechanism will pass through continuous improvement, the certification will raise the expectation bar of the investors.
