J K Cotton Mill ready for competition after 19 yrs of closure
Press Trust of India / Kanpur Jul 17, 2009, 13:38 IST

Textile products of J K Cotton Mill are set to hit the market next month after nearly two decades of closure.

The mill reopened in January this year after remaining shut for 19 years and is ready to take on the big players in the textile market, the management claims.

"Production is about to commence in the mill as maintenance activities are nearing completion," J K Cotton Mill General Manager Sanjay Dubey told PTI today.

The mill will start producing 10,000 metres of cloth per day, beginning next month which will rise to 25,000 metres within 2-3 months.

J K Cotton Mill shut down was announced on May 15, 1989 due to a workers' strike which rendered 4,000 employees jobless in one go. The mill finally reopened on January 19, 2009 after almost 2 decades. It is a matter of great joy for the workers to find their employment back during the slowdown.

Dubey has informed PTI that new workers are also being hired in addition to restoration of jobs to the old employees. They are also trying to reinvigorate their brand-name which was well known all over the country 19 years ago.

They are bringing terricott, suiting and shirting and cotton back into the market by the old brand name, he added.
