Jhajjar power project to generate power by 2011

The Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd. (HPGCL) is facilitating the addition of another 1320 MW generating capacity in the State through a Super Critical Thermal Power Plant, being set up at Jhajjar by an Independent Power Producer CLP Power India Pvt. Ltd.

After a coordination meeting with officers of CLP Power India Pvt. Ltd. Madhusudan Prasad, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Haryana, who is also the Chairman of HPGCL said here today that this project comprising of two Units of 660 MW is the first power generation project in Haryana based on the latest Super Critical Technology.

He added that power plants based on super critical technology consume less coal per unit of electricity generated, leading to lower emissions, lower cost of generation and higher efficiency. He also informed that the project is expected to commence generation by December, 2011.

He further informed that financial closure of the project is expected to be achieved by the end of this month, however CLP has already brought in Rs. 750 Crores as its equity upfront. He added that mega power project status has already been granted to this project by Ministry of Power, and after declaration of this project as a mega power project, CLP have already imported the first consignment of equipment worth Rs. 4.50 Crores.

Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, the Managing Director of CLP Power India Ltd informed that the project was being implemented by a Special Purpose Vehicle "Jhajjar Power Ltd." (JPL) incorporated by HPGCL.

Power purchase agreement was signed between the Haryana Distribution Companies and JPL during August, 2008.

HPGCL had awarded the work of this project to M/s CLP Power India Ltd. During July, 2008 on the basis of tariff based competitive bidding, as per guidelines of Government of India, under which availability of land, water linkage, fuel linkage and environmental clearance is ensured to the bidders by the Government.
