| JITPL hopes to commission Orissa power plant by 2012 |

The New Delhi based Jindal India Thermal Power Ltd (JITPL), setting up a Rs 5961-crore, 1200 Mw thermal power plant at Derang, near Angul in Orissa hopes to commission the project by 2012.
While the activities like construction of the boundary wall and ground leveling is going on at the moment, the technical investigations like soil testing have been completed, sources said.
Though the company targeted to complete the project by 2013, it has expressed its optimism to commission the project by 2012.
The company’s confidence stems from the encouraging progress made on the project in the recent months.
This would be a major achievement for the company as it was struggling with some local problems for about 10 months, during which the construction work was stopped.
Shyam Jindal, chairman and managing director (CMD), JITPL today met the chief minister and apprised about the progress of the project.
Jindal has sought the continuation of the state support for the project, sources said.
The company had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Orissa government on September 26, 2006.
While the land acquisition for the project is completed, it has received permission from the water resources department for allotment of 40 cusecs of water from river Brahmani.
