Jyotsna Suri appntd Bharat Hotels chairperson & MD

October 26, 2006 New Delhi… Due to the sad and untimely demise of Mr Lalit Suri, the Chairman & Managing Director, Bharat Hotels Limited - The Board of Directors of the Company at a recently held meeting, appointed Mrs Jyotsna Suri as Chairperson and Managing Director. Mrs Suri is already the Joint Managing Director of Bharat Hotels.
 
The Board paid rich tributes to Mr Lalit Suri, who passed away of a cardiac arrest on October 10, 2006. The Board placed on record his dynamic contributions to the Company in making it one of the largest privately owned and fastest growing Chain of hotels. All members spoke in one voice of his vision and foresight and the unflinching zeal with which he worked to further the cause of the Indian tourism industry, throughout the world.
 
Mrs Jyotsna Suri, comments ‘My husband had big dreams for Bharat Hotels and worked tirelessly to make the Company what it is today. It is my commitment to realize all of Mr Lalit Suri’s dreams and I will ensure that Bharat Hotels will continue on the path of success that he firmly placed it on. I have a strong operational team and with the able guidance from the members of the Board and my family – Bharat Hotels will surely reach greater heights of success.’
 
Born on July 20, 1952, Mrs Jyotsna Suri, is a Miranda House Honours graduate, from Delhi University. She has been actively involved with all aspects of the Company operations, as Joint Managing Director, a responsibility she has shouldered since 1989. She is the driving force for all marketing, architectural, interiors and human resource programmes for the Group. She is also known for her patronage of art & culture and has done tremendous work to promote the cause of young and unknown artists.
 
Jyotsna Suri also does a lot of work for various charities. She finances a skills training & rehabilitation centre for the blind, extensively supports various charities for the under privileged, the spastics and the girl child, to just mention a few. She is the mother of four children – three daughters and a son - Divya, Shradha & Deeksha and Keshav.
 
Bharat Hotels is today acknowledged as a leading hotel company. From a single hotel in 1988 (The 444 room InterContinental The Grand New Delhi) to twelve hotels offering more than 2000 rooms in the five-star deluxe segment. All company hotels are operated under ‘THE GRAND’ banner. These include InterContinental ‘The Grand’ hotels in New Delhi, Mumbai, Goa & Srinagar and The Grand Ashok Bangalore, The Grand Laxmi Vilas Palace Udaipur and The Grand Temple View Khajuraho. The soon to open hotels are - The Grand Great Eastern Kolkata, The Grand Resort Bekal, The Grand Ahmedabad, The Grand Chandigarh and The Grand Jaipur.
