Everyone is wondering what is the political strategy of former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, who is contesting as a candidate of the Lok Bharati Party, a part of the coalition of 16 parties led by RPI(A) leader Ramdas Athavale. People are wondering why Kambli chose to contest from a general category seat (Vikhroli in the north-eastern suburb of Mumbai) and not from a reserved constituency despite that fact that he belongs to a scheduled caste. Political analysts also point out that Kambli, 37, got a flak from the media recently when he criticised cricket icon and childhood friend Sachin Tendulkar for not helping him.
