Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra tea, which is struggling to recapture its place in the market, has been adversely impacted by the economic slowdown.
The demand for Kangra tea has dropped 30 to 40 percent in the last few months, tea planters say.
The tea is known for its flavour rather than its weak colour. It's is grown in a pocket of 2,060 hectares in and around Palampur.
Though its production is negligible, till a few years ago it was in demand and was quite popular in neighbouring Afghanistan.
The production has dropped in recent years as far cheaper tea from other places in Asia is now available in the market.
