Kerala banks display debt waiver lists
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Thiruvananthapuram July 02, 2008, 0:19 IST

The scheduled commercial banks, regional rural banks (RRBs) and cooperative credit institutions in Kerala have come out with the lists of eligible beneficiaries under the Agriculture Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme (ADWDRS-2008).

The State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) in the state said on Tuesday that the lists displayed at the branches of the banks and other credit institutions will be available for verification. The SLBC had been closely monitoring the progress of implementation of the ADWDRS 2008 in Kerala.

The SLBC said that the bank branches had displayed two types of lists. While one is a list of eligible farmers cultivating five acres or less of land whose overdue loan amount as per the scheme guidelines would be waived, the second list has the names of eligible farmers cultivating more than 5 acres of land and those who would get a 25 per cent relief out of the eligible overdue amount as calculated according to the scheme.

The lists displayed have also mentioned the names and addresses of the grievance redressal officers appointed by the respective banks and other lending institutions.

A meeting of the SLBC held in this regard has also said that aggrieved farmers could make a representation to the grievance redressal officer concerned on or before July 31 in case of any complaints. Such grievances would be addressed and disposed of within 30 days of receipt of the complaint, it said.

The SLBC said that a sub-committee of the SLBC steering committee in Kerala would meet every Tuesday to review the progress of the implementation of the scheme.

The sub-committee would comprise general managers from the RBI, Nabard and Canara Bank, state nodal officers of the State Bank of Travancore, Indian Overseas Bank, Indian Bank, Union Bank of India and Syndicate Bank.
