"Current output (from KG D-6 fields) is around 45 million standard cubic meters per day," RIL head of oil and gas and Executive Director PMS Prasad told reporters here.

The output is lower than the fields capacity of over 65 mmscmd. An Empowered Group of Ministers headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had on October 27 named consumers for the entire additional output expected beyond the initial 40 mmscmd allocated previously. However, the minutes of the meeting have not been issued yet.

"We are awaiting government instructions on additional users and will immediately ramp up the output once that is done," he said.

The Government had previously allocated 15 mmscmd to urea making fertiliser plants, 18 mmscmd to power plants, 3 mmscmd to steel and 4 mmscmd to LPG making units and city gas projects.

However, not all the consumers named were in a position to take the gas and so additional allocation was made to power plants on fallback or temporary basis. But for these fall back allocations, KG D-6 output would have to be restricted to less than 35 mmscmd.
