Kingfisher to up 10% capacity from this winter
Press Trust of India / Mumbai Sep 04, 2010, 18:28 IST

Private air-carrier Kingfisher Airlines plans to add over 10 per cent capacity from the coming winter schedule besides adding a couple of domestic and international routes, a senior airline executive said.

"We are going to increase frequency in the winter schedule. We will also be looking at adding a few more destinations," Kingfisher Airlines' Executive Vice-President (Commercial) Manoj Chacko told reporters here today.

Currently, the air carrier operates 360 flights, including domestic and international. The facility is available in eight countries and 60 cities in India.

The airline has already filed its winter schedule with the government, Chako said, adding, "it (increased capacity) is going to be more than 10 per cent for sure."

Kingfisher Airlines is also planning to launch operations on four new domestic routes and a couple of international ones shortly, Chako said.

Earlier, Chako along with British Airways' Chief Executive Willie Walsh announced the launch of code sharing between the two air-carriers from September 15.

Under the code-share agreement, British Airways (BA) code will be placed on 11 domestic routes and one international route (Sri Lanka) operated by Kingfisher Airlines while Kingfisher Airlines' code will be placed on nine British Airways routes from Heathrow to the UK regions and continental Europe.

"The code-share with Kingfisher Airlines will give our customers easier access to the Indian domestic routes and Sri Lanka," Walsh said.

The BA code will be placed on Kingfisher flights from Bangalore to Chennai, Coimbatore and Kochi, Chennai to Coimbatore and Colombo, Delhi to Bangalore and Kolkata, Mumbai to Bangalore, Chennai, Goa, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

Similarly, the Kingfisher code will be placed on BA flights from Heathrow to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Amsterdam, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Lisbon and Paris.
