| Lancaster University ties up with G D Goenka |

UK-based Lancaster University has tied up with the G D Goenka World Institute to set up a 68-acre campus in Gurgaon to offer six courses — three undergraduate courses and three post graduate ones. Around 295 students have taken up their places at the GD Goenka World Institute University and will receive a Lancaster University degree on completion of the course. “The undergraduate programmes are BA (Hons) Economics, BA (Hons) Business Economics and BBA (Hons) Business Studies of which the last one is most popular,” said Lancaster University's vice-chancellor Professor Paul Wellings.
This year, Lancaster’s Management School will deliver undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in India and a Global MBA from January 2010. “G D Goenka has invested in the campus but students will be able to use Lancaster’s library and teaching resources. Gradually, we will proceed to portfolio development degrees to increase the number of courses,” added Wellings who expects the student strength to increase to 750 next year. The campus can accommodate 5,000 students and the MBA course will be a premium fee course.
Though the university does not intend to setup a campus here, it only wants to expand itself through partnerships with private universities in the country.
On his long term plans for India, Wellings said, “Our ambition is to have an India centre for research within a framework of two years and to replicate the environment school at Lancaster, here.”
