FIRST LOOK: Suneet Varma's collection for Tucsan Verve.
On display Ramp after ramp of female fashion is only to be expected at any Fashion Week. So it was at Lakme Fashion Week. It was Suneet Varma who brought relief: male fashion, for a change. And what a change it was: an Urban Cowboy collection for the man who “has a new attitude but is not a metrosexual”.
Strengths Varma drew applause for his clubwear in burgundy, black and browns, with suede and applique trimmings. To some observers’ surprise, denim was used to interesting — even inspiring — effect on some of the outfits, and the outfits were well-fitting, although not altogether body hugging.
Weak Spots Some of the jackets and trousers were a little too over the top, in fashion analysts’ reckoning, for a retail label.
Buyer sightings This was only for Tucsan Verve, the retail chain, but Varma has sold part of his independent collection to Browns.
Typical prices The Tucsan Verve collection is priced between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,500
Overheard Wow statement: “The collection has been designed with the everyday user in mind.” Meow statement: “I really wouldn’t want to be caught dead in his show-stopper dalmation print suit.”
