Contrary to Left Front’s economic policy at the Centre, chief minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya today spoke in favour of foreign direct investment (FDI).
Speaking at the annual general meeting of the Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce (MCC), Bhattacharya said, the state government was in favour of FDI in infrastructure, education, culture, service and healthcare industries.
He said that several multinational IT companies were operating out of Kolkata.
However, Bhattacharya said that the state government was against FDI in public sector units, which was the backbone of the Indian economy.
He said, globalisation was a must but, not at the cost of developing nations. “We need a level playing field,” Bhattacharya explained.
