Left under no pressure for Govt formation: Yechury
Press Trust of India / New Delhi May 15, 2009, 13:17 IST

The CPI-M today said the Left was under no pressure from any other party for government formation.

"There is no pressure at all on us. The mood is fine and excellent," CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury said when asked if there was pressure on them to support a secular government at the Centre.

On whether the Left will support Nitish Kumar as the Prime Minister of a secular front as reported in a section of the media, he said: "Let the results come out, we will know."

On the post-poll scenario, party politburo member M K Pandhe said that no talks have been held so far on the issue of prime ministership.  "We will have to talk with our other Left allies on whom should be made Prime Minister. Till results are out, we are not discussing this issue," Pandhe said.

He said the ultimate objective of the Left front was to work towards forming a non-BJP and non-Congress government at the Centre.

Asked whether AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa would attend the Third Front meeting on May 18, Pandhe said "we are not definite about that. We hope she will be with us".

"She fought the election on the basis of non-Congress, non-BJP alliance. So we hope she will be with us," he added.

In this regard, he said that BJD was also with the Third Front and scotched rumours about the party sealing an alliance with the Congress.

Asked what the party was doing to keep the Third Front intact given that TRS had already joined hands with BJP, he shot back, saying that TRS MPs are being held captive by BJP. "Let us wait till the results come out," he added.

Another politburo member Brinda Karat said the ultimate goal was a non-BJP, non-Congress government at the Centre.
